The Premiere of Melodies of Verisubani at Tsiskvili’s Theatre – The Legendary Musical Returns to the Stage
The Tsiskvili Theatre has been delighting audiences with outstanding shows and musicals for three consecutive years. The stage has hosted productions such as And Here We Are – Mamma Mia! and the Broadway-licensed musical Chicago. What sets it apart is its exclusive concept: here, performance, service, and gastronomy come together to create a complete experience.
The 2025 season opens on a grand scale. On May 20, 21, and 22, the premiere of Georgia’s first legendary musical, Melodies of Verisubani by Giorgi Shengelaia and Anzor Salukvadze, will take place at the Tsiskvili's Theatre. The production features timeless music by Gogi Tsabadze and unforgettable lyrics by Moris Potskhishvili.
The stage version is directed by Zaal Chikobava, with set design by Tamar Potskhishvili, costumes by Anna Ninua, choreography by Giorgi Toriashvili, vocals by Tamar Archvadze, and staging by Tea Kipshidze. One of the city’s most remarkable cultural events, the performance will be accompanied by a dinner curated by the theatre’s brand chef, Alex Natadze.
The partners of the legendary musical Melodies of Verisubani are: TBC Concept, Cityzen, Borjomi, Bene, Chivas 18, Gureman, and Vake.
The media supporter of the musical is Palitra Media Holding.
Our team began working on Melodies of Verisubani a year ago. We took on a significant responsibility, as it is a Georgian film classic – the first Georgian musical created by Georgian legends. Additionally, this is the first time a Georgian musical is being staged at the Tsiskvili's Theatre.
The creative process has been very engaging, despite the many obstacles we faced over the past year. Very soon, the audience will be able to appreciate our work on the Tsiskvili Theatre stage. Intensive preparations are underway: costumes are being sewn, sets are being created, actors are undergoing vocal training, and more.
I would like to express my special gratitude to everyone who supported us throughout this process – first and foremost, the Tsiskvili Group. I also extend my thanks to Nikoloz Rachveli for the extraordinary musical arrangement, recorded by the Evgeni Mikeladze Symphony Orchestra and presented to us by the Vaso Abashidze New Theatre, with many thanks to Davit Doiashvili. Special thanks also go to Zurab Laliashvili for correcting the phonograms.
We look forward to seeing you at the premiere!” – Zaal Chikobava, Artistic Director of the Tsiskvili Theatre and Director of the stage version of Melodies of Verisubani.
“Melodies of Verisubani” brings the stories of the city’s oldest district to life on stage. The audience will once again meet the beloved characters of the Tsiskvili Theatre – Pavle and his girls, the washerwoman Vardo, the dance class teachers, Pristava, and Agha-Georka. The script tells the story of unrequited love, a crime committed out of kindness, and a sentence canceled at the request of society. The musical captures the mood of old Verisubani through music, choreography, and visual aesthetics.
The audience will experience a cinematographic masterpiece that has become a classic, presented with its original content at the Tsiskvili's Theatre.
