The premiere of the first Georgian musical, Giorgi Shengelaia and Anzor Salukvadze’s legendary Melodies of Verisubani, took place at Tsiskvili's Theatre, featuring the immortal music of Gogi Tsabadze and the unforgettable lyrics by Moris Potskhishvili.
The stories of this historic Tbilisi district, brought to life on stage, captured the hearts of every guest. The audience at Tsiskvili's Theatre once again met the beloved characters – the cobbler Pavle and his daughters, the washerwoman Vardo, the dance class teachers, Pristavi, and Agha-Georka.

We remembered, fell in love all over again, and together experienced a story of unspoken love, a crime committed with kindness, and a sentence overturned by the will of the people.

Artistic Director of Tsiskvili’s Theatre and director of Melodies of Verisubani, Zaal Chikobava, shared:
“The premiere of a truly legendary Georgian musical took place in our theatre, and it was deeply rewarding. We brought to our audience the atmosphere and emotion that we all cherish from Melodies of Verisubani.
It was important for me to be surrounded by the strongest and most professional people in their respective fields. Creating a new musical requires significant resources, and this was truly the work of one very large and powerful team — the Tsiskvili Group.
I want to sincerely thank all the individuals and companies who supported us: Concept, Citizen, Borjomi, Chivas 18, Gureman, Bene, Vake, and our media partner, Palitra. Their support means a great deal to us.”

Tea Kipshidze, the author of the stage adaptation of Melodies of Verisubani, said:
“The Georgian audience witnessed an extraordinary, classic, and legendary Georgian musical at Tsiskvili's Theatre.
When the original film was released in 1973, Georgian viewers immediately fell in love with it. Every line felt incredibly alive and memorable. Even today, 50 years later, it remains just as beloved.
Just imagine—Giorgi Shengelaia, Anzor Salukvadze, Gogi Tsabadze, Moris Potskhishvili—so many iconic names, all tied to one Georgian masterpiece: Melodies of Verisubani.
Though the story unfolds in the Vera district and was set in the 1910s, it remains as relevant today as ever.
We made a conscious decision not to modernize the piece. While this is our own stage version, we were committed to preserving its original language, tone, and style.
All those favorite lines you remember from the screen—you’ll definitely hear them on the stage of Tsiskvili's Theatre.”

The extraordinary music by Nikoloz Rachveli, provided by the Vaso Abashidze New Theatre and recorded by the Evgeni Mikeladze Symphony Orchestra, stayed remarkably true to the spirit of the original.

Costume Designer, Anna Ninua:
“Everything began with ideas—studying the material and creating sketches. From there, we selected fabrics and took measurements.
Stage and film costumes are entirely different, so we aimed to make the wardrobe more theatrical. We didn’t follow the original film version exactly—we reimagined it in our own way.”

Choreographer, Giorgi Toriashvili:
You know, the legendary Melodies of Verisubani is a musical loved by everyone. It was very important for us to bring it to life on stage.
I want to thank Tsiskvili's Theatre for giving us the opportunity to stage this production.

I made a modest attempt to modernize Zaretsky’s iconic choreography, and I believe we succeeded. This time, we didn’t work with just two children, but with nearly ten—something that adds energy and authenticity to the show.

Honestly, working with children is more challenging than with adult performers, but also incredibly rewarding.

Our theatre troupe is unique. This is the third musical we've created together, and I’m genuinely happy to be part of it.”

Alongside the performance, guests were treated to a special gastronomic experience. As tradition holds, carefully selected dishes by Tsiskvili’s brand chef, Alex Natadze, were served—adding a flavorful touch to the premiere evening.

The premiere of Melodies of Verisubani left audiences with unforgettable emotions and evoked the very essence and charm of old Tbilisi—its people, its rhythm, and its timeless stories.
